Here are the most common schemes used by scammers on dating platforms.

Spammers often target people looking for casual encounters. After a short conversation, a supposed match sends a link to a website with explicit photos and promises easier communication there. The site charges for access, but neither the photos nor the conversation are real.

Do not open suspicious links. They may also contain malware, aggressive advertising, or phishing pages.

They often use fake profiles and ask for relatively small amounts. Be cautious if someone refuses a live video call or a recent photo but repeatedly asks you to top up a phone, pay for a taxi, or send money for food. Ask for direct contact; if it never happens, end the conversation and report the profile.

Both men and women can become targets. The scammer collects compromising information and then demands money in exchange for silence.

People already in a marriage or serious relationship may be especially vulnerable. A blackmailer asks for personal details, social-media accounts, recent photos, and intimate conversation. Once enough material is collected, they threaten to send it to relatives or colleagues. Paying once rarely ends the pressure.

Never send intimate images online. The safest rule is simple: do not send them to anyone.

These scammers build trust over time, write intense messages, create the feeling of love, and eventually leave the victim heartbroken and financially harmed.

A profile showing a wealthy, successful person may belong to someone else. Ask for a current photo and a live call. Reverse-search profile images and notice whether messages answer your questions, use your name, and sound personal rather than copied from a template.

A match says they sent you a valuable gift but could not pay the delivery fee. They claim cash is inside the parcel, so you will lose nothing. Once you pay the fake courier charge, the sender disappears and no gift arrives.

The scammer promises to visit or travel with you, but asks you to pay urgently for flights or a hotel before a special offer expires. The booking site may be fake, and all contact stops after payment.

After an intense online romance, the scammer announces a crisis just before a planned meeting: stolen documents, job loss, illness, or a sick relative. They urgently need a large sum. Once the money is sent, they disappear.
